Highlights of our Efforts

Year 2006

Engaged members in a campaign to reverse the federal government decision to eliminate the GST Visitor Rebate Program.

   

Meetings with PC leadership hopefuls Jim Dinning, Mark Norris and Lyle Oberg
concerning Tourism competitiveness and human resources issues.

   

Actively participated in the development of the Tourism Improvement Fee (TIF)providing input on TIF operational details as well as an ongoing oversight role to ensure TIF funds are being used to advance the interests of the accommodation sector.

   

Enhanced research, advocacy and marketing efforts to support BLLHMA’s campaign to attract and retain Banff & Lake Louise’s future labour requirements.

   

For the first time, completed an in-depth analysis of BLLHMA’s role and purpose including the development of a strategic plan, business plan and annual budget.

   

Provided input to the Banff Community Plan to ensure a balanced approach to social, environmental and economic planning.

   

Attended the Annual Banff National Park Planning Forum. BLLHMA addressed: Banff build-out, state of National Park assets, branding and marketing Banff National Park, Trans-Canada Highway, and human resource attraction and retention issues.

   

Continued liaison with local MLA, Janis Tarchuk, MP Myron Thompson and other provincial and federal representatives to ensure Banff-Lake Louise accommodation sector issues are being advanced.

   

Ongoing input on Town of Banff strategies and polices that impact the accommodation sector, including participation on the Mayor’s Transportation Mini-Summit and active engagement in researching transportation best practices that could be adopted for the Banff-Lake Louise region.

   

Ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. The Banff-Lake Louise area continues to maintain the highest density of rated hotels in Canada for “green” ecorating programs.

   

Sponsored a number of key organizations and events including: Banff Child Care Centre, Winter Start Street Festival, Canada’s West Marketplace, Santa’s Anonymous, One Hot Summer and Canada Day.

   

Representation on the Board of Directors of: Banff Lake Louise Tourism, Travel Alberta, Canadian Rockies Tourism Destination Region and the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association.

   

Ongoing support of our community with the proceeds from the 7th Annual Banff Lake Louise Fall Charity Classic Golf Tournament provided to the Banff Child Care Centre.  

   

Hosted the 8th Annual Welcoming Reception and Trade Show for Associate Members.
